The Accident

On 4/16/2010 at approximately 10 to 10:15pm, my Lenny was involved in a serious boating accident. There were 6 occupants of the boat, all were injured. Both Lenny and his best friend Jakie sustained life threatening injuries and were airlifted to trauma centers, Jakie to Las Vegas, Lenny to Phoenix.

I received a call at 1:45am informing me of the accident. I then spent the next 2 hours trying to find him and find out what happened. After calling two hospitals I found Jakie, and then called his mom and she took it from there. I still couldn't find Lenny, so I called the Lake Havasu Police and they got back to me in about a half an hour telling me he was in Phoenix and that the social worker would be calling me soon. Next came the longest 20 minutes of my life. Waiting to hear....

Lenny sustained the following injuries - Completely fractured face from the upper jaw to above the eyes, broken neck, broken ribs, collapsed lungs, and severely broken legs. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I spent the next several minutes rallying friends and getting to YiYi (that is what Lenny calls his sister). We all headed to Phoenix and below I will update you on his condition, how we are holding up, and have a way to communicate with you to keep you updated and be able to answer your questions and be able to get the support we so desperately need from all the wonderful people that love him.

Week Six -Saturday & Sunday

I cannot believe that we have started week six since the accident. My how far we have come.

This weekend Lenny had visitors, Ricky and Liz & Dennis and Crystal. They arrived Saturday and he was really happy to have them here. Kyle and Junior came out last weekend and it has been very therapeutic for him to have friends around.

We were talking today about almost being able to go home. We are so ready that today we were laughing that this must be what prisoners feel like when they are coming to the end of their sentence. LOL.

This weekend friends really rallied at the house to get it ready for our return. Tim & Allison installed the ramp, Mel & Kelly brought the medical equipment, Yiyi & Gary brought the hospital bed over and got it set up, just one thing after another. Alaina is going grocery shopping and Jen is installing a handheld shower before we get home Wednesday. So much stress off my mind, thank you all!

Tomorrow Lenny learns how to get in and out of the car, he jokes that we should make a break for it, but the whole reason why we are waiting until Wednesday is that he has two doctors appointments on Tuesday. We plan on leaving right after breakfast on Wednesday to get home ASAP.

3 more sleeps until we are on our way home (as Logan would say!)
See you soon! Love, Lenny and Nancy

  2. Nancy and Lenny:
I can't even express my joy in words that you are both heading home this week. To all of your friends I want them all to know as your mother how grateful I am that you have such wonderful friends that are helping you at the house to get everything ready. Everyday you are getting a little bit closer to being able to put this horrible ordeal behind you. Now I am waiting to read in your blog the day you and Lenny are both able to go back to work.

I love you both--take care of each other.
